Antarctica Maps
It is not hard to identify the continent of Antarctica on a map - it is found at the South Pole. On maps of the Earth you will find that the Antarctic Circle is one of the five major points of latitude that are parallel. This is why for a few days each year the sun doesn’t rise at all in Antarctica. So in Antarctica you surely would not say as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow, because that may not happen.
On a map showing Antarctica, you will immediately notice that Antarctica is a very large continent. Some people think it is a shame that so much land area isn’t used for anything. However, it is virtually impossible for people to live there due to the climate. The land is cannot be cultivated as no known food or fruit plants will survive there. Plenty of other plants and animals do live on Antarctica though.
There are some great maps that detail the travel patterns of the penguins. They trek for miles in the cold to be able to gather in order to hatch their eggs. This is a very dangerous trip and the penguins go days without eating. The journey they make each year isn’t one that most of us would be willing to make.
On a local map of Antarctica, you will be able to see all of the elements that are responsible for the extreme climatic conditions. With 98% of the area being ice, you may not be expecting much. However, there are definitely some great tourist attractions around Antarctica. Many of them are detailed on different maps as tourists are always looking for guidance for sites and scenes and where better to look than on a map.
There are also some detailed maps of Antarctica showing the different research stations. This information is very important for those that are interested in this aspect of Antarctica. These maps also help in case of emergencies where communication is cut off completely and help may need to get to any of these stations.
The United States Geographical Survey also shows various maps that have been taken by experts. Most of them are derived from aerial shots but still give very detailed information. They allow you to see the layout of the land and the layout of the ice formations along the rivers of Antarctica. Most of these can be viewed online, and in some cases purchased and downloaded, or you can buy hard copies at any retail location that sells maps.
